YAMAHA LAUNCHED INDIA'S FIRST SPORTS BIKE
I recall during 80's riding in Rx100 was a great passion for all bike lovers. Yamaha name was become a house hold name in most of the house in India because of one only Rx100. All young boys loved that bike and its melodious sound. But later Yamaha was not able imprint the same passion with another model though the reputation of Yamaha was highest among bike lovers who admire the sexy style and performance of YAMAHA R1 and YAMAHA R6 yet another catchy name associated with Yamaha was the legendary Valentino Rossi.

What would the average Indian fan expect from designers like YAMAHA?
They dream nothing less than riding in R1 in the streets of India! Its dream for all of us to move with speed of wind in the streets of Cochin kaloor and Marine Drive ...well this dream seems distant but what Yamaha can contribute nothing less than what they promised in latest Auto Expo in New Delhi....The launch of YZF R-15.... Company official says it's the DNA of R1.

YAMAHA R1 > YAMAHA YZF-R15
This will really shake the concept of Indian two wheeler Market. Yamaha has really initiated the process months back with the launch of YAMAHA R1 in selected showrooms. I got the privilege to interact with the distributors of R1, the confidence levels are much above they expected but average Indian youth will not be able to spend Rs 10.5 lakhs for a bike so the benefit has not extended to majority.
YAMAHA YZF R 15 will fulfill this dream. Surely, this will be the first bike to set a bench mark in India. Company officials' have kept the specification as secret but different rumors are there, all are matching with one point that R15 will be 150 CC.

YAMAHA R125
"We made the new YZF-R125 deliberately as a real sport bike and the similarity to its bigger sister the YZF-R6 is intentional, "explains Hiroshi Komatsubara, President of Yamaha R&D development centre in Milan, Italy. "There are only a few real super sport bikes in today's 125 cc class. And we felt that our young riders still think like the generations before when it comes to motorcycles. They like serious machines with exciting performance and many of them dream of a bike like the R6"
If this can be true about a 125 cc bike then much more will it be applicable for a model that set to challenge the biggest 2 wheeler market!
Some sources say that R15 will be exactly same as that of R125.... Then it will be fantastic!

Red line ... the YZF-R125 has a modest top speed with looks that thrill. In Europe, where many countries enforce 125cc-capacity restrictions on young riders, Yamaha's YZF-R125 sells like hotcakes, thanks to its combination of great looks, ergonomics and handling.
It's been designed to go up against Honda's highly successful CBR125R. It's a convincing package but also comes at a much higher price, so does it have what it takes to win over Aussie learners?
The YZF-R125 looks as if it is doing 200km/h standing still. With just 15 horsepower from its 125cc four-stroke single-cylinder engine, however, it's top speed is more likely to be a relatively modest 130km/h ... provided you're going downhill with a tailwind.

On flat ground, you won't be going faster than 110km/h, which is not all that different from most small-capacity learner bikes.Electronic fuel injection ensures fuss-free operation and helps the R125 achieve remarkable economy. Even under duress, the Yamaha manages to slurp only 3.5 litres per 100 kilometres.
With a 13.8-litre fuel tank, that gives the R125 a range of almost 400 kilometres.
A smooth six-speed gearbox helps keep the R125 on the boil, with maximum progress achieved between 7000rpm and 9000rpm.
Around town there is no need to rev the Yamaha that hard, as the little motor is torquey enough to short-shift while commuting and needs only 3000rpm on the tacho for smooth and brisk getaways from traffic lights.
Handling is surprisingly brilliant. At just 138 kilograms with a full tank of fuel, the R125 proves extremely agile and a handy little tool in the bends.
A lengthy 1355-millimetre wheelbase adds a nice dose of stability and endows the bike with reasonable ergonomics.
Under maximum braking, the non-adjustable forks are pushed a little out of their comfort zone but, overall, they perform well. Stiffer fork springs would help larger or more aggressive riders.
Part of the reason the forks are taxed under brakes stems from the power of the 292-millimetre front disc and twin-piston Brembo caliper.
The stoppers deliver good feel at the lever and much better braking power than most learner machines.
While the R125 has a surprising amount of room for the rider, the 818-millimetre seat height might present a few problems for shorter folk.
Instrumentation is classy and far removed from the Fisher-Price look of many competitors. Quality of finish is also of a high standard.
At a smidgen under seven grand plus on-road costs, however, you certainly pay for it. By comparison, the Honda CBR125R retails for just $3990 plus on-roads. In this market, that makes the Yamaha a hard sell.
Also making things tough for the R125, older learners in Australia have access to 250cc machines and, in states with the Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme, machines up to 650cc, as long as they meet certain power-to-weight criteria.
If the YZF-R125 grew up to be a 250, it would become Australia's top-selling motorcycle overnight, a fact Yamaha Australia will no doubt be pushing hard with its Japanese masters.

It's time to get on the road, the Yamaha YZF-R125 2008 model introduced 12 days ago. Now it is time to grab the maximum fun out of life with the Yamaha YZF-R125. This radical, high-revving, fuel-injected 125 is the work of the same engineers who created our YZF-R1 and YZF-R6 supersport legends and is packed with MotoGP tech. The YZF-R125 is here to deliver stunning R-Series styling and exhilarating sports performance because life is a sport, to be enjoyed to the max.The Yamaha YZF-R125 is smallest member of the R-series, with all aspects this bike including its engine and chassis technology feels like its a racer.
The Yamaha YZF-R125 is equipped with liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, 4-valve, single cylinder, SOHC 124.66cc engine. The engine is a 52mm bore and 58.6mm stroke with a impressive 11.2:1 compression ratio.
Yamaha is using for the Yamaha YZF-R125 the new for all 2008 motorcycles electronic Fuel injection fuel system. And the ignition is don by TCI system.
We can also see changes in the gearbox of the Yamaha YZF-R125, the constant mesh, 6-speed transmission, with wet, multiple-disc coil spring clutch, feels like it want to go, it is clear that here some of the MotoGP technology was used. The final power transmission to the wheel is by good old chain and sprockets. The chassis of the Yamaha is basic, it would be better if Yamaha did some more improvements on the frame. The complete stability of the steel deltabox frame is quite good and overall road handling is pretty impressive, especially with the improved telescopic fork front suspension and the swingarm - monocross rear suspension system. The front suspension has about 130mm travel and the rear suspension 125mm by Yamaha specifications.
The Yamaha bike has both front and rear a single disc brake, for front Front tyre Yamaha uses a 100/80-17 M/C and for the rear wheel it is a 130/70-17 M/C tyre. All things said I feel good about this 126.5kg bike, if you looking for something else then a scooter or light motorcycle I can surely recommend this little blue speed devil.
Yamaha Gladiator 165cc review
After all the rumors about its launching latest news reveals that Yamaha Gladiator 165cc will launch by June this year.News reveals thatthe bike would develop around 16.5 PS and complete a 0 – 60 sprint in less than 5 seconds. The bike is provided with Telescopic Hydraulic Suspensionon front and Rectangular Swing Arm Suspension at back which provides high comfortableand safety to the riders.Other features includes Low Fuel Indicator: Low Oil Indicator,Low Battery Indicator,High Oil Temperature Indicator,Choked Air Filter Indicator.
The rumour for the launch of Yamaha Gladiator 165cc has been doing its rounds since long. Every bike lover is looking up to Yamaha when this dream bike would be launched. However Yamaha is not releasing much detail about the bike, but we do expect the launch at least at the early 2010 with the good design and performance so that it can compete with the already existing rivals and the upcoming ones. May be because of this reason, Yamaha is taking much time to make this much awaited bike to be slalomed at top spot in its class. When the bike was shown in 2006 Auto expo, many took pleasure that they would be riding on their dream bike very soon. But still they gotta hold their patience to see this bike launch in this coming year at the latest.
Engine
The bike is expected to continue the success story of Yamaha powered by the good performing engine. The bike is expected to develop around 16.5 PS and can complete a sprint of 0-6 in less than 5 seconds. There could be some variation in the engine if and when launched in order to give a tough challenge to the potential rivals.
Design And Comfort
More likely than not, Yamaha would be compelled to make Gladiator 165cc a new age bike with the enticing features and design which should keep the young bikers riveted and infatuated. In order to survive in the face of changing trend and existing competition, Yamaha is expected to accentuate on the futuristic looks and design of the bike. As shown in the Auto Expo, 2006, the bike stands out in sharp contrast among its peers. The bike comes in the rich exciting colors. It has a super cool engine guard. The handle is well carved out and the rear foot pegs are ergonomically designed. But the bike is not equipped with the monoshock as seen in the pic and it is most likely to base on gas/liquid filled shocks. Gladiator 165 should get an international appeal in case it is equipped with the contemporary monoshock feature.
Ride And Handling
Yamaha Gladiator is provided with Telescopic Hydraulic suspension in the front and rectangular swing arm suspension at the back. The bike is sure to offer a very comfortable ride quality and safety to the rider. The front disc brake is of high end craftsmanship which can bring the bike at a sudden halt without any biting feedback. It has a very comfortable riding position along with the aerodynamic design, which again enhances the look of the bike. It is an ideal bike to snake through the busy city routes with the free comfy-sporty ride. It owns a host of functional features such as low fuel indicator, low oil indicator, low battery indicator, high oil temperature indicator and choked air filter indicator. In the event of launch, it is believed that the Yamaha Gladiator 165 would be a great hit in the market offering high level of performance and ride quality.
Variants, Price And Color
The tentative expected price of the bike is around 65,000 and it would be available in the colors of Blue and Silver.
The expected price was about Rs. 65,000.

Engine
The new Yamaha Fazer 250cc or 220cc engine could be based on bigger fuel injected power plant with the single cylinder. The fuel injected single cylinder engine is expected to generate power output of 20PS which would probably make the Fazer the fastest bike in the country. But the more important thing is 20Nm of peak torque that will make the Fazer a potent tourer with its strong mid-range surge and weight lugging capabilities.
Design And Comfort
The current FZ series and the Fazer are the well sorted-out bikes with the excellent aerodynamic and ergonomic designs. The much awaited Fazer 250 Fi would come out with a few alterations, perhaps with the more acclaimed fairing, ergonomically carved out handlebar and footpegs. The current international version bears the potential to be pegged as sports bike or tourer with the hybrid design and look, similar to the current Fazer. The bike looks chunky and it's got a larger silencer. It has a voluminous fuel tank which truly shows the characteristic of a tourer bike. It has multi-plate wet clutch type and comes with the electric starter. The bike is sure to seduce the young bikers with its fascinating features as is predetermined by Yamaha Motors to make it live up to the fast changing trend.
Ride And Handling
The large tank of Yamaha Fazer 250cc offers a comfortable knee-recess on both sides where the rider can put legs in a more relaxed fashion. The seat is well padded merging in the well-crafted alloy grab-rail. A well designed aluminium sub-frame section mounts the pillion foot-pegs for the superb ride quality. Although Yamaha has not commented on the exact speed of bike, it is believed to hit the top speed of 150 kmph. This would be the fastest bike in India. According to Sanjay Tripathi, department head (Product Planning & Strategy) of Yamaha Motor India, "We will have the fastest bike in India and the riding experience is something Indian consumers have never experienced before." This statement clearly sums up the performance and persona of the bike for which we have to extinguish our irresistible desire to test-ride this paragon.
Variants, Price And Color
The Rs. 70,000 price tag for the fastest bike Pulsar 220 is something Yamaha may find difficult to beat. The New Fazer 250cc could be priced in the range of Rs. 70-80 thousand in India. The bike is available in the colors of Black, Blue, Red and Grey in two different models.

Bajaj & Kawasaki launch New Kawasaki Ninja 250R Sports
Bike
Kawasaki Ninja 250R
Engine
Kawasaki Ninja 250R is powered by a 249cc liquid cooled, parallel twin, DOHC petrol engine which develops a maximum power of 32 Bhp at 11000 rpm with the maximum torque of 22 Nm at 8200 rpm. The Ninja 250R features a revised six-speed transmission for smoother shifting and works on a more durable clutch. It also features a new radiator to provide better cooling without adding extra weight to the bike. The engine of Ninja 250R has been refined to deliver smooth, step-free power improving low- and mid-range power to offer rider-friendly response. The combustion chamber has been so designed to optimize combustion efficiency and reduce emissions.
Design And Comfort
Ninja 250R stands the best looking sports bike in the 250cc segment as the sole 250cc bike on sale in India. It puts on complete fairing with large plastic and steel parts. Ninja 250R ranges out a very aggressive look when cast a look at the head with dual-lamp headlamp. The rear view mirrors are mounted on the smart fairing gelling with the overall look of the bike. Between the mirrors, a black tinted windscreen is sandwiched that protects the rider from wind blast. The Front turn indicators get an addictive look and add to the machismo of the bike. The mask fairing contours down the fuel tank and engine and the bike's monogram is executed over the petrol tank and air scoops. Ninja 250R comes with 6 spoke black alloy wheels which look very enticing with racing strips at rim. Under the rear seat, there are two helmet holders. The tail part also gets a sporty look with the slim and sharp protection cover. The Step-up seat is another attracting feature on Ninja 250R.
However the instrument cluster of Ninja 250R is a flaw part as it comes in analog format. Speedometer, odometer, trip meter and tachometer are in analogue mode. It looks a bit tacky as compared to other Indian bikes which employ digital cum analog instrument cluster like Apache RTR, Pulsar 220 and Karizma ZMR. The cluster comes with the warning lights such as low oil, low fuel, choked air filter, high oil temperature and low battery indicators.
Ride And Handling
The silky smooth 6-speed gearbox of Kawasaki Ninja 250R reduces friction while shifting the gears under power. The spring-type clutch damper reduces jerkiness at very low speeds and minimizes shocks when regulating the throttle for a slick clutch feel. The paper-base friction plates help increase clutch durability. Ninja gets a whack of 0-100km/h at 5.75 seconds with the top speed of 176kmph. According to Bajaj's claim, it gives a mileage of 42.5 kmpl. The bike also meets the strict emissions enhanced by the well designed dual catalysers. Ninja 250R rests a new diamond-type frame made of high tensile steel to provide a steeper steering without compromising the wheelbase when mated with a longer swingarm. The fork is larger and stiffer, with revised settings in comparison to 2008 model of Ninja 250R.
Ninja's 37mm telescopic front fork with firm settings contributes to the smooth and stable handling with enhanced ride control. The suspension, which complements the rigid frame and re-tuned fork, provides great road holding ability. Rear shock features 5-way adjustable preload, enabling ride height to be maintained whether riding solo or with a passenger. The stopping power of Ninja 250R comes from large 290mm front hydraulic disc and a balanced action two-piston caliper offers excellent braking performance. The rear features two-piston caliper grips with 220mm petal disc.
Variants, Price And Color
Ninja 250R is available in 2 shades - Lime Green and Ebony Black. Though it is also available in red and blue in other global markets, Bajaj has launched it here only in two shades.

Kawasaki ninja 250
It has been quite simply the most awaited bike on Indian soil, the Kawasaki Ninja. A thoroughbred in every sense of the word, over 25 years of evolution has culminated in this beauty of a machine. We managed to get an up close and personal look at the machine.

As speculated earlier, the bike features a twin cylinder, 250cc fuel injected engine that produces 33bhp which is mated to a six speed transmission. Top speed is claimed to be somewhere around 175Kmph. The bike is imported in parts and assembled in India by Bajaj, which helps in keeping the costs lower than what it would have been to import it as a completely built unit. The on road price stands at around 2,95,000 Rs which happens to be quite a lot, but considering the fact that Bajaj have managed to sell about 170 of these machines since its launch, it has been quite a success.
It features several advances in engine technology such as direct valve actuation and thick pistons along with a Denso radiator which ensures that the engine performs consistently during hard riding. Two catalytic converters are used in the exhaust system, and automatic cam chain tensioner is integrated into the engine that avoids looseness and chain slack hence lowering mechanical noise. The six speed gearbox uses a clutch damper that reduces jerks at low speeds and offers a smoother pick up.
It has a diamond-style frame made of thick steel tubes which translates into high stability and stiffness at high speeds, this frame has been a tried and tested model that has evolved from over twenty years of existence, it carries on with an improved feel over the previous iteration along with new improved materials for light weight and rigidity. The engine with the parallel dual cylinder setup centralizes the bulk of the mass which improves handling.
The front features an inverted shock absorber that has a travel of 4.7 inches and a Uni-Track rear mono-shock that travels 5.1 inches which also happens to be adjustable. The brakes are massive with petal discs for the front and rear. A 290mm disc does the job up front while a 220mm takes care of things at the rear. A slight disappointment would be the lack of colour choices available for the bike, you could coose from Midnight Black or Lime Green and that’s about it. The US market gets to choose from 5 different colours, so we are not sure if Kawasaki will introduce more, but for now these are the only two on offer.

The fuel tank has a 24 litre capacity. One flaw that you may notice is that this bike does not have a fuel gauge, There is, however a low fuel warning light so if you happen to see it lit up, you better be heading to the nearest gas station. You would find two hooks under the rear seat that allows one to anchor or tie anything on to the bike with the help of a cord; also the rear seats feature an elastic band that makes it easy to quickly fasten something on.
The instrument cluster unlike most new bikes in India is a fully analogue one and does quite a good job in representing all the numbers that really matters. It houses the tachometer, speedometer, trip meter, temperature dial and warning lights. A shift indicator can also be found residing on the top of the rev counter.
On the whole, it is a great overall package which happens to be practical; the fuel efficiency is on the low side with Kawasaki claiming around 20 to 25 Kmpl. The 2009 version which is on sale here features some minor changes over the 2008 one, the most visible one being the silencer which is now matt black with a chrome tip instead of the full chrome finish. So, a Maruti Suzuki Alto or the Ninja 250? You decide…

He also stated that the new Pulsar will sport a new look and an engine with advanced technology.
Close on the heels of this reports, comes another stunner. It comes in the form of KTM’s third quarter 2009/10 financial report which reads, “In addition to the already entered KTM markets, new market opprtunities in emerging markets come along with the serial production of entry-level street motorcycles (125cc to 350cc) which will be launched in late fall 2010 in cooperation with Bajaj Auto Ltd. The first step will be Brazil, where the market offensive is already in the preparation stage.”

The 2011 KTM 125 'Stunt'
Now we knew about the 125cc KTMs that were showcased at the 2009 EICMA in concept form. We were even told by Bajaj that these KTM 125cc bikes will be launched in India as well and the engines will be manufactured locally. But what catches our attention now is the 125cc-350cc bracket that is being developed by both the companies. We had reports earlier that the new 2011 Pulsar flagship model is going to use a parallel twin engine. So if that report is to be believed and if the 125cc engine is any pointer towards the technology used, then expect the new Pulsar to boast of a 250cc / 350cc Parallel Twin engine with a four valve cylinder head, double overhead camshaft (DOHC), liquid cooling and fuel injection.

These engines are being co-developed by Bajaj and KTM in Mattighofen. We were told earlier than the working prototypes of the higher capacity engines (read above 125cc) were being tested in India on various chassis prototypes at Bajaj’s facility in Pune. One of our sources has confirmed that the development of the bike is going as per schedule and Bajaj is working hard on the localisation of the components to keep the price tag as low as possible for the new flagship 2011 Pulsar. Stay tuned to Motoroids as we bring you more updates on this bike as and when we have them!

Scoop! TVS 250cc motorcycle inches closer to launch
News | admin | March 29, 2010 at 12:00 amThere are a lot of rumors floating around regarding the new 200+cc motorcycle from TVS. Well, here’s some more dough on the upcoming bike. As per our sources (who have proved reliable in the past), the new bike from TVS is ready for a launch! The bike has finished most of its ARAI procedures and as our sources tell us, the ‘new’ bike has been passed by the ARAI as an ‘upgrade’ of an existing model and not classified as a ‘new vehicle’ altogether.

*Representative image. Does not show the actual bike.
The bike is based on the current Apache platform with obvious alterations within the powerplant. The upgraded engine will now displace between 220-225 cubic centimetres with a rated power in the range of 20-24 PS. While the Apache 180’s engine featured minor increments to both, the bore and the stroke, over the 160cc mill, the new engine is said to have increased the bore size significantly while making minor increments to the stroke length. TVS has reportedly developed a lighter piston for the upgraded engine and has made the engine revvier. This may also mean that the claimed power comes in at a very high rev range making the new engine peaky like the R15’s mill.
DISCUSS THIS TOPIC ON THE MOTOROIDS FORUMS
Considering the peaky engine in developed on the race track, expect some strong top end here, similar to that of the R15. However, even if the engine is relatively weaker in the low and mid-range, its higher displacement should make it worthwhile as compared to the R15 when it comes to street riding. Since the RTR 180 itself is one of the quickest bikes when it comes to 0-60 km/h sprints, we won’t be surprised if the 22Xcc engine outruns the Pulsar 220F to a 0-100 km/h sprint (AND top speed) as well!

The upcoming bike will be laden the ABS shown on the RTR180 at the 2010 Auto Expo
Apart from the new engine, the 22Xcc bike will mark the debut of TVS’ anti-lock braking system (ABS) as well. The hydraulic ABS was displayed at the 2010 Auto Expo on a RTR 180. Once launched on the 22Xcc bike, the ABS will filter down to the Apache RTR 180 and eventually the RTR 160 as well. The disc rotors however will remain similar to the RTR 180 with a 270mm petal disc up front and a 200mm petal disc at the back. The other cycle parts like the chassis, wheels/tyres and rear swingarm/suspension is said to be carried over from the RTR 180. We however speculate the telescopic forks to be fatter on this bike.
DISCUSS THIS TOPIC ON THE MOTOROIDS FORUMS
There are talks of the new engine sporting an external oil cooler, much similar to its Bajaj rival, for more efficient cooling. However given the nature and source of this speculation, we are not sure about it unless we hear it from a more reliable source close to TVS. The fuel tank is expected to retain its 16-litre capacity, but is speculated to feed a larger, 30mm Mikuni carburetor. Yes, you read it right, the 22Xcc bike won’t be a fuel injected machine (at least to begin with).

The new bike may very well retain the ‘Apache RTR’ tag
This should help TVS keep the costs low, much similar to the path Bajaj adopted with the Pulsar 220. We are expecting the costs to be below the 1-lakh rupee mark for the street bike. Why we say ‘street bike’? Well, here’s the catch. Another source from the OE industry has tipped us saying that the new engine might also spawn a sub-250cc dirt bike. TVS has already been running full fledged motocross bikes fitted with upgraded RTR engines and this bike, if produced, will give newbies an access to a factory spec dirt bike and in turn attract youngsters towards dirt/motocross as well! TVS has shown such machines more than once at various Auto Expos in the form of the Isotope (Auto Expo 2006) and the RTR 250EX (Auto Expo 2010). Knowing the commitment TVS has towards motorsports, we won’t be surprised if we see both these bikes go on sale side-by-side!
Kinetic Comet
Priced at a little less than Rs. 2 lakh and equipped with stunning looks and features, one look at the Kinetic Comet will make you forgot the price tag in a snap! With extremely rugged looks, resembling the Ducati Monster, the Comet 250cc has the looks of a superbike. This sleek bike has an angular body design, much attention to minute details and very smart paint quality. There is a lockable storage space
under the rear seat and nubbins in the under-seat rails and rear panels in order to tie anything that is left out. The Comet 250 is available in three different colors: Red, Black and Yellow.
under the rear seat and nubbins in the under-seat rails and rear panels in order to tie anything that is left out. The Comet 250 is available in three different colors: Red, Black and Yellow. Engineering
The Comet has an air-cooled four-stroke engine that is equipped with an oil-cooler. The V-twin bike has a powerhouse of 249cc that exhibits excellent engineering. The bike offers a butter smooth drive on the Indian roads even at as low as 2000 rpm and remains vibration free even at 10,500 rpm! The five-speed gear box is quite smooth, though may feel a bit heavy at first. The Comet250 has an impressive acceleration and can go from 0 to 60km/h in a mere 3.69 seconds and what impresses even more is that fact that this bike has the capacity to make all distances look small. In fact, it is the best bet for you if you have drive intercity.
The frame of the bike is not aluminum, but silver painted steel. The bike offers a comfortable posture to the biker that looks awesomely sporty. Though maneuvering this bike in the Indian traffic may prove a Herculean task to many, take this beast on the highway to feel the sheer power and the throttle. You can’t help feeling royal and pampered with this mean machine soaring through the wind with you on it. The braking is apt and effective with the 300mm disc brakes in the front. So all those who are cribbing that it is outrageously priced, go for a test drive and you will find all your doubts melting away! Technical Specifications
